The Heart Will Find a Way anthology

I’m thrilled to have a memoir piece accepted for this beautiful anthology, coming out on Valentine’s Day this year.

My piece, The Women in White, is a deeply personal but fictionalised memoir about how the first few days of our lives can imprint us with their trauma, and how that plays out across our lives. Here’s a little excerpt in a section exploring my mother’s childhood:

Some people might wonder how a child can be borne of silence, but my mother knew right away it was because of the cherry stones. She’d been burying them in the backyard ever since her uncle, who took her outside every night to show her the star in the sky that was her father, told her they were the secret ingredient for babies.

The book features 41 heart-warming, heartfelt, moving and hopeful memoirs and short stories from Australian and international authors, including Emma Grey, Nina D Campbell, Sara Foster, Mercedes Mercier, Darry Fraser, Maura Pierlot and Anne-marie Taplin.

From the back cover blurb:

‘The selected authors share their deeply authentic truths as they unfold their hopes, express their hurts, reveal memories and offer glimpses into their wildest imaginations. The stories reaffirm life and remind us of the importance of being led by the quiet beating, the rushing, the hammering, the breaking and then the healing of our hearts. Diverse, moving and uplifting, this anthology packs an emotional punch!’

Profits from the anthology will raise funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. (For every $10 donated they can get a culturally relevant book into the hands of a child in a remote First Nations Community).

Published by Southern Key Press, a brave new independent publisher based in Australia, the book is the ‘heart-child’ of Story as Life Literary founder, writing coach and literary agent, Anjanette Fennell.

RRP is $24.99 (AU) plus postage. Bulk copies can be ordered at a lower rate by emailing anjanette@storyaslife.com. Order online through:
